Block is a combat defence, like Evade or Parry . When an attack is about to strike, there is chance you will block it with your shield. Some classes can specialize in Block, training in it will increase your chances to parry an attack. There are also some NPCs that can parry attacks.

Shield specialization also gives your shield styles does damages, and that can land a stun (positionnal, reactionnal, anytime). The stun duration is not reduced by resists.

The size of your shield is indicating how many opponents you can block simultaneously without penality:

  • small shield: 1 opponent
  • medium shield: 2 opponents
  • large shield: 3 opponents

Block Chance[]

Chance to block is affected by the amount of specialization points invested into the Shields skill as well as Dexterity

The chance to block can be calculated with the following equations:

Base = 5 %
Skill Bonus = 0.5 * (shield spec + realm rank bonus + template bonus) %
Dex Bonus = 1 / 40 * ((dex * 2) - 100)%
Myth Bonus = Mythical block %
Realm Ability = Mastery of Blocking %

Total = Base + Skill Bonus + Dex Bonus + Myth Bonus + Realm Ability

Adding the results of all three together, you will find your base calculated block rate before taking into account enemy Weaponskill.

In RvR, the block chance is capped to 60%. Block efficiency is halved when facing dual wielders.
